Hi everyone,
after the update today, where kde-l10n-de was upgraded from15.04.2-1 to 15.08.0-1, the translations in KDE-PIM are gone. I guess it has to do with the fact, that the PIM-suite was not upgraded to the 15.08-version. So my question is: Where is the error?
Should we use the 15.08-Version of KDE-PIM to get the translations back? Or were the translations for KDE-PIM 4 just forgotten? And if we must use the KF5-Version, then why are the old applications not upgraded to the KF5-Versions?
Thanks in advance,
Torben

Actually it is updated, but there's a change in the package names, where for example kdepim-kontact becomes kontact. If you install kde-meta-kdepim you should be set and done pulling all the dependencies. So the new applications were upgraded to kf5, they just use different names (no need to change settings or redo the kmail email setup after upgrade).

Well yes, I saw that. Let me rephrase: "I guess it has to do with the fact, that the *KDE4-*PIM-suite was not *automatically* upgraded to the 15.08-version." Normally this is done, when new versions of applications are released.
So: Why that? I vaguely remember arojas, the Arch-KDE-Maintainer, saying, that we stick to the KDE4-Versions of KDE-Pim until the next release cycle. And as the KDE4-Versions are still around (see the "kdepim-*"-packages), I would assume that the translations also should be available.
I don't have any problem with using the english Version of KDE4-Kontact, until the applications are explicitly replaced. I just want to make sure the missing translations are intended. And, as an extra, I'd like to know why the *automatic* upgrade is hold back and we have to install the KF5-Versions manually.

Because kdepim 15.08 is released as "technical preview" https://www.kde.org/announcements/annou … 5.08.0.php
We already have enough whining when upgrading to *stable* kf5 versions of applications, I don't want to imagine what we'll have to deal with if we upgrade to something labeled as techincal preview.
About the translations: please open a bug report, I'll see what I can do.

Fair enough. I already thought the reason could be found in that direction ![]()

Done. => https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/46091

After upgrading to kde-l10n-de 15.08.0-2 the translations are almost back to normal. There are just some oddities I noticed but I'm not 100% sure, that they were not there before the upgrade that broke the translations completely:
the Standard-Folders are not translated (inbox, sent-mail, trash,…)
some menu-items are not translated (e.g. 'File' -> 'Empty All Trash Folders' or 'Edit' -> 'Copy Folder')
the terms 'today' and 'yesterday' in the dates (both in message list and in message view) are not translated while the weekdays like 'Monday' etc. are.
Should I reopen the bug-report? Or is there nothing more you can do?
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

You are using 15.08 translations in kdepim 4.14. This will only work for strings that haven't changed in the meantime (which should be most of them). The other ones are removed from the translation packages, so there's nothing we can do about them.

OK, already thought so. Anyway: The current situation is good enough for me, so I mark this as (completely) solved.
Again: Thanks for your effort!
