QoS for noob

Hi,

I would like to set some QoS stuff on my server, but I have no idea about the best way to do that.

What I want to do :
- everything that goes to 192.168.0.2 have very high priority and no limit of any kind (mainly nfs)
- everything that goes on the internet have medium priority and bandwidth limitation
- be able to set reduce (eventually dynamically) priority and bandwidth for specific application without knowing specific ports (let say transmission and steam for example)

What do you think I should do ?
Do you have good learning material that I could use ?

Traffic shaping is a complex topic.

You could start by reading http://shorewall.net/traffic_shaping.htm.

Re: QoS for noob

Do you have a router that already has QoS capabilities?  I know some Asus routers have this capability built directly into their firmware.  This would be a simple and arguably best method to implement QoS.
