Can we get the ChessX package into AUR [Solved]?

I can see ChessX in http://pkgbuild.com/git/aur-mirror.git/ but not in the current AUR repository.

How do I install this package? Is it possible for someone to bring it into the latest AUR?

I am new to Arch, if someone can guide me, I could try to do that myself.

ChessX is really a good Chess Learning/Analysis Software on Linux platform and its really user friendly as well.

Re: Can we get the ChessX package into AUR [Solved]?

The significant change for AUR users was only in the way you download the files (PKGBUILD etc.). You found the files somewhere else -- download them and proceed to install as you would with the new AUR. Only thing is that you know there haven't been any updates since the AUR change, but with the old AUR a PKGBUILD could just as well go without updates for months -- you always have to be a bit careful.

If you don't know enough about the AUR/makepkg to use it or to upload this to the new AUR (should you choose to do so if nobody else offers), read the relevant wiki pages first and then ask here if you need help with the specifics.

Re: Can we get the ChessX package into AUR [Solved]?

Thanks Raynman. I cloned the http://pkgbuild.com/git/aur-mirror.git/ repo which is approx 400MB and did makepkg from the chessx-svn directory. Is there a better way to do that? Or do I need to maitain the aur-mirror.git repo in my local folder. I was thinking that the new approach allowed me to clone individual packages which is much more effecient. Is there a way to get chessx-svn the same way? If so I would like to add it - it also helps users find the package - I was referred to this mirror by someone at #archlinux, I wonder if new users might be able to find the package?

Re: Can we get the ChessX package into AUR [Solved]?

I would simply have downloaded the PKGBUILD and .install file for chessx (and/or chessx-svn) via the cgit web interface.

Everybody can find that mirror, it's also in the wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ar … 3_packages

Elsewhere on that page (maybe read the whole thing?) you can find how to submit to the new AUR: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ar … g_packages

Can anyone help how to proceed?

Developer suggested the following if that might help:

Make sure that your Qt contains the XML Framework, depending on the distribution, additional dev-packages need to be installed.
Look for header <QDocDocument> in your filesystem and if it is located somewhere where the compiler can find it.

Further I also read that

QDomDocument belongs to the QtXml module. To link against the module, add this line to your qmake .pro file: QT += xml

PS: Cleaning up as per the below comments.

Re: Can we get the ChessX package into AUR [Solved]?

Please use code tags when posting command output (and there's BBCode for quotes, too).

You don't need extra packages: Arch has one big qt4 package, which contains QDomDocument:

$  pkgfile QDomDocument
extra/qt4
extra/qt5-base
multilib/lib32-qt4

So you can check the .pro file. I just did this and found "xml" is missing. So you could add it and try again. But the INSTALL file says it should work better with Qt 5. So you can try with qmake-qt5 instead of qmake-qt4 (without changing the .pro file). If that works, make sure to also update the depends array in the PKGBUILD.

Re: Can we get the ChessX package into AUR [Solved]?

I've played around with this this morning and I've it working.  Sort of.  I will probably put together an AUR package for it, but if you are impatient....

As I got into fixing references, I found that the source is using QStringLiteral -- a method that did not exist prior to Qt5.   The package was being built against Qt4.  I presume the code was ported to Qt5 at some point in the svn.  Install Qt5 -- all of it.  Make the following changes to the PKGBUILD and it will work.

ewaller@turing ~/devel/build/aur-mirror/chessx-svn [2]1062 %diff PKGBUILD*
10c10
< depends=(qt4)
---
> #depends=(qt5)
30c30
< qmake-qt4
---
> qmake-qt5
ewaller@turing ~/devel/build/aur-mirror/chessx-svn [1]1063 %

Note that I commented out the depends declaration.  To create a proper PKGBUILD, I would have to go and figure which parts of Qt5 are required for this program.  Seems kinda like work for a beautiful Saturday morning tongue

Edit:  BTW, it is a nice looking program...  http://i.imgur.com/WEyb3Fn.png

Yes it is awesome smile  I use it a lot with Stockfish Engine to analyse games. Thanks btw I will try those!

It worked fine, I just used makepkg -sriC to ensure its a clean build.

Well, enjoy.  And don't forget to edit your first post in the thread and add [SOLVED] to the thread title -- if it is solved smile

Perfect. Couldn't have asked for more smile. Along with https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/stockfish/ it is really easy to analyze chess games and also play in http://www.freechess.org
