Desktop keyboard keeps disconnecting and reconnecting with...[SOLVED]

I have a USB keyboard that only recently started disconnecting and reconnecting randomly. I have the dmesg error showing what is going on: https://ptpb.pw/vzts

Once it starts it will keep repeating the same error over and over. I've changed USB ports and tried checking to see if its not plugged in properly and everything is fine, I've checked to see if it does it on other computers too.

Is this related to some new bug with the kernel?

Can you reproduce the issue with the same keyboard on a different computer?  Can you try another keyboard on your computer to see if issue is reproduced?

Try out the LTS kernel.

That is what I meant by "I've checked to see if it does it on other computers too." I've plugged it into other computers and no errors.

Could it be a desktop environment as well? Which environment do you use?

Re: Desktop keyboard keeps disconnecting and reconnecting with...[SOLVED]

Is my desktop usb hub assuming my keyboard and mouse are on two usb ports at the same time? https://ptpb.pw/1Odd

I disconnected both and connected them in different ports and this is what dmesg shows me.

Re: Desktop keyboard keeps disconnecting and reconnecting with...[SOLVED]

Have you tried the lts kernel just to factor out a kernel regression?  What kernel version was the other computer running where the keyboard worked without disconnects?  Which kernel are you on now on your pc?

Re: Desktop keyboard keeps disconnecting and reconnecting with...[SOLVED]

I'm running 4.1.6-1-ARCH on both my laptop and my desktop. I'm not sure I want to switch kernels though, won't that cause some issues with other things?

Maybe the new stable kernel release will iron things out I hope.

There's only one way to find out...

You will still have the option to boot into the standard kernel if things go pear-shaped (they are co-installable) wink

Ok I can confirm I have the same issue on the LTS kernel too.

Re: Desktop keyboard keeps disconnecting and reconnecting with...[SOLVED]

When I unplug the keyboard and leave the wireless mouse in, I don't have any errors at all which suggest this is related to the keyboard only. The only thing that doesn't make sense is I have no errors whatsoever if I plug my mouse and keyboard into my laptop. So apparently it has something to do with the keyboard hooked into the desktop only.

Re: Desktop keyboard keeps disconnecting and reconnecting with...[SOLVED]

If this is a hardware issue, how can I know for sure? Is there some way to troubleshoot whether or not this is hardware related or electrical related?

Does the problem occur in the live environment?

Then it is not a hardware issue.

This could be a great lead into what is going on.

The thread here :

/*
* EM interference sometimes causes bad shielded USB devices to
* be shutdown by the hub, this hack enables them again.
* Works at least with mouse driver.

Re: Desktop keyboard keeps disconnecting and reconnecting with...[SOLVED]

I think I may have solved this issue, I can't be too sure right now but I believe I've at least mitigated the issue. There is a refridgerator nearby that keeps turning on and off and I assume it was causing some issues with the other appliances. Also I can't really trust that the refridgerator is operating properly anyways. So I turned it off and also moved my keyboard wire far away from anything I could think of that could cause EMI. So far I don't have any errors.
