Bonobo Gnome2.14 problem :|

There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.

Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work correctly.

The Settings Daemon restarted too many times.

The last error message was:

System exception: IDL:Bonobo/GeneralError:1.0 : Child process did not give an error message, unknown failure occurred

GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in.

sad

Also, I had to make links to libdbus-1.so.2.0.0 and libdbus-glib-1.so.2.0.0 for everyone to work correctly, but this still shows up. Is the extra repo suppose to be unstable?

Well, any help would be appreciated. big_smile

Could you kill the gnome-settings-daemon and try to start it from a terminal, post the output you get in this topic.

Also, what files did you have to symlink exactly to get which things working?

for symlink, I had to link, libdbus-1.so.2.0.0 to libdbus-1.so.1 and libdbus-glib-1.so.2.0.0 to libdbus-glib-1.so.1, because gnome-system-monitor, vlc, and epiphany werent loading.

I would tell you what gnome-settings-daemon output was but idk the command to launch it, I thought it was gnome-vfs-daemon but that just starts back up once I kill it. neutral

thanks for help. big_smile

edit: After a bit of search, I found gnome-settings daemon, here's the output.

/opt/gnome/libexec/gnome-settings-daemon: error while loading shared libraries: libgstbase-0.10.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

sad

Ah, control-center needs an extra dependency on gstreamer0.10. Install it and your problem is over.

For dbus: make sure you have the latest versions of everything, all these gnome apps have been rebuilt against the right dbus version, so symlinking isn't required.
