Switch From Gnome to Xfce [SOLVED]

tried to switch from gnome to xfce...xfce4 and xfce4-goodies are installed...

"sudo systemctl stop gdm" ...stopped gnome & dropped to CLI after CTL+ALT+F2....good so far

logged in and tried "startxfce4"......came up with mouse cursor stuck mid-screen & totally
locked up....had to do hard (power off) restart to get back to working gnome session....

any ideas ???

You stopped gdm, you didn't exit out of gnome unless you didn't mention it - there'd be no reason to switch to tty2 if you did.

Then when you rebooted, you were back in gnome because you only stopped gdm, but didn't disable it. Disabled gdm, reboot, then at the tty1 prompt login, then try startxfce.

You could also tell your existing GDM to start Xfce instead of Gnome. See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GD … M_sessions. Or, if you don't want to use GDM either anymore, use another Display Manager such as LightDM. You switch DMs by disabling GDM and enabling the other one (see Wiki for exact details).

+1 for the easy fix....I learned something new today & that's a good thing...

now if I can just mark it solved...
