How close is suspend to working on Macbook Pro 15" (2015 model)?

I've seen a thread or two on this laptop but they left this question (in the topic) unanswered.  I'm getting close to getting the 2015 Macbook Pro 15" and I'm a bit worried about the unresolved issues (mostly suspend).  I have a Macbook Air (2012 model) running Linux now and despite some initial hickups suspend/resume (and pretty much everything else) works flawlessly.  I don't mind putting in some work to get the new machine to work but I'm worried that its been ~4 months since release and suspend still seems to be utterly broken.  I would like to ask people who've been trying to get it to work if they have any sense as to whether this will work soon or not (i.e. is the problem fundamental or is it just drivers catching up)?

A laptop without suspend is pretty much useless to me so if that doesn't work I might try running linux in a virtualbox (i.e. treat OS X as a very heavy bootloader).  My second question is whether compositing and 3d effects work (well) in virtualbox on OS X.  From the docs it looks like they should work but I'm just curious if anyone has tried this (I tried to check this on my old MBA but the lack of RAM made it painfully slow irrespective of comositing effects).

Here is the related Kernel bug I've been following.  Nothing solid yet, though I've personally not tried all the steps and patches included in this bug report:  https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101681

I have replied to the bugzilla threads. I don't see any progress on the bugzilla reports - there are 3 of them filed and as the kernel 4.4 is also nearing release, I guess this will then be not fixed for a long time.

Is there anyway we can help the community in fixing this? Suspend not working is really a blocker for any laptop user.
