[SOLVED]rsync errors while backing up system.

When doing a full system backup, as root, I tend to end up having a few errors each time. The same files don't always cause rsync to throw errors. I get errors on both mkstemp and stat, with the error being No such file or directory.

I don't know how to address these as most of the solutions I've found online don't seem to apply. I'm backing up from ext4 and vfat partions to an ext3 partition over samba.  Is there anyway to make sure these files get backed up?

I strongly suspect "over samba" being the main problem here. Windows filename restrictions are a kludge. Using '--inplace' might help as it prevents the use of temp files, but read the caveats in the manpage.
Anyway, show the whole rsync line or backup script.

I'm using Backintime for now, so the rsync is hidden. I think I'm going to switch to pure rsync once I get a successful backup. I'm switching to ssh, and just need to modify the path a bit to get the right busybox.

**Update: Well, it turns out just plugging the harddrive in by usb was much simpler than wading through undocumented settings. I'm just going to go with pure rsync in the future.
