Yes, but doesn't the message mean fox BELOW 1.4.999?

Install a previous fox package or install a different file manager?

Re: Installing xfe file manager? - problem

Look in your cache:
/var/cache/pacman/pkg/
Or you can build it by using the PKGBUILD  from Arch cvs:
http://cvs.archlinux.org/cgi-bin/viewcv … cvs-markup

That "weird" dependency is there because that version of xfe only works with fox 1.4.x.

This mirror archives all old arch packages.

Re: Installing xfe file manager? - problem

I'm running xfe 0.88 with fox 1.6.1 here, and everything's fine. Looking at xfe's deps, I'm now wondering how pacman allowed that to happen :?, but that's for a different thread. On topic, IMO the fact that they work together means that xfe needs fox<=1.4.999 to build, but will run with higher versions. What do you think, Snowman?

Re: Installing xfe file manager? - problem

After fox upgrade xfe stopped working for me.  Had to switch to tuxcmd.

According to the xfe web page:

- Xfe 0.88 requires the FOX 1.4.x library and neither works with FOX 1.0.x, nor FOX 1.2.x, nor FOX 1.6.x!

I think I've seen something about needing at least fox 1.4.10 :? That's why I use these unusual dependencies (I've seen something similar in another PKGBUILD).

tomk: did you compiled xfe against fox 1.6.1? Here, the xfe package in community doesn't work with fox 1.6.1. I get a

xfe: error while loading shared libraries: libFOX-1.4.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

error. I haven't tried building xfe with fox 1.6.x as I assumed that it wouldn't work. I'll try it tonight.

Re: Installing xfe file manager? - problem

Please disregard everything I have posted in this thread. Apologies for the confusion. I've been having a bad day, and it affected my memory. I did pacman -Syu to see what was due for upgrade, saw fox there, along with everything else, and then cancelled, because I didn't have time to deal with any niggles at that stage.

Once again, apologies.

Same here. I now get this when I try to open XFE:

xfe: error while loading share libraries: libFOX-1.4.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
