I have no html5 sound in one user account. Everything else works: flash, media players and stand alone java in this account and html5 and media players in the other account. The only difference I see is that the user with no html5 sound is not in the lp group. There are differences between the two accounts, but I am not aware of anything of interest. There is only one sound card. I am open to suggestions.

You should first compare both account's ~/.asoundrc files and see if they are the same.

Thank you for your answer. There is no .asoundrc file anywhere on my system.

It began to work. Headphone must be unmuted and turned up in alsamixer, though I am pretty sure that I tested it before and it wasn't working anyway.

Flash and html5 block each other out. This can be an issue in all accounts, since the other account does not have flash activated. Ideas?

Flash is no longer available after the last update and html5 is just fine with sound.
After I fooled around with media.mediasource. in about:config, http://test-flash.net/test-flash-audio.html still blocks html5 completely with 100% cpu (needs video reload) and html5 blocks flash sound only.

html5 and flash sound also block each other on a different machine running centos. strange this thread did not attract more attention.
