[SOLVED] Problem setting the time after removing the battery

After I removed (and afterwards plugged in) the battery I can't change the system time, on boot I get these errors in dmesg:

rtc_cmos 00:03: hctosys: unable to read the hardware clock
tpm_tis 00:07: [Firmware Bug]: TPM interrupt not working, polling instead

and invoking timedatectl or timedatectl status returns:

Failed to query server: Invalid argument

While timedatectl set-ntp true and timedatectl set-timezone run without errors, ntpd is not found and as a result I can't synchronize the time via internet.

Here is my entire dmesg:

Re: [SOLVED] Problem setting the time after removing the battery

After manually setting the time and updating the hardware clock by hwclock --systohc, the

rtc_cmos 00:03: hctosys: unable to read the hardware clock

error is resolved but I still get the

tpm_tis 00:07: [Firmware Bug]: TPM interrupt not working, polling instead

error and ntpd is still 'not found'.

Re: [SOLVED] Problem setting the time after removing the battery

Okay it seems that

tpm_tis 00:07: [Firmware Bug]: TPM interrupt not working, polling instead

has nothing to do with my issue. I resolved the problem by installing ntp which was apparently missing; this is strange as I am certain I had used the ntpd daemon before when setting up the Arch and for some reason it was no longer there. For installation, there was a signature trust issue so I had to remove the /etc/pacman.d/gnupg/ directory and go through this process again:

pacman-key --init
pacman-key --populate archlinux
pacman-key --refresh-keys

Afterwards I was able to install the missing ntp package without succumbing to SigLevel = Never in /etc/pacman.conf.
