I have a Problem with my graphic card under i3 respectively X with frame-buffer compression.
I have a Thinkpad T440p with Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4710MQ CPU @ 2.50GHz.
It has a Nvidia graphic card, but I don't use it, so it's deactivated all the time for saving power.
For a long time everything worked well with my Intel graphic card. The frame-buffer compression was activated via options i915 enable_fbc=1 in /etc/modprobe.d/i915.conf for saving power.
But now I have a problem with it and I think it belongs to a driver update.
When I'm using the i3 window manager, most of windows are not repainting automatically anymore. Just by clicking on it, or if I run a terminal with something refreshing automatically like watch -n 0 echo x. Also if I use just X without any window-manager the problem exists. Just with xfce4 it works still fine.
If I deactivate the frame-buffer-compression it works again but it uses 5W more power. So it's not a good solution.
An other solutions for this problem is downgrading the driver from xf86-video-intel-1:2.99.917+364+gb24e758-1-x86_64 to xf86-video-intel-2.99.917-5-x86_64. But then my computer freezes after a while completely, not even the SysRq Reboot is working anymore. I also tried to downgrade xorg-server and some dependencies but the freezing problem still exists. If I do a complete Rollback I can't boot anymore. But that's an other problem.
My last solution is to run compton, but then my laptop is using 3W more power, that's still better than deactivating the frame-buffer-compression but for my use case it is not a real solution.
Maybe there is a config for saving power in compton? I tried a little bit with the compton config, but I didn't get a good result.
Am I the only one, who suffer under this problem since the Intel driver update to xf86-video-intel-1:2.99.917+364+gb24e758-1?? Is this a bug or a feature?
Is there anyone, who have an Idea how I can solve this problem?

No one here, who can recommend something what I could do??
I've spent a lot of time in searching for a solution, but now I don't have any idea how to go on.
