SOLVED - Double Desktop Icons on Xfce

arch 64 xfce.
currently drop gdm. switch to xinitrc.

1. My desktop icons have double.
I have 2 sets of icons 1 works the other doesn't.
The one that works lay over the other one offset to the right.

2. For some reason my home folder comes up on startup.

Most likely you have two applications trying to manage the desktop. xfdesktop is probably one of them. Find out which app (nautilus, nemo, pcmanfm, etc) is the other one and configure that app to run with the option to not manage the desktop (something like passing it a "no-desktop" parameter).

If you mean that your file manager is starting on startup and displaying your home folder, then either remove it from your start-up applications (Settings Manager > Session and Startup > Application Autostart) or clear your saved sessions (Settings Manager > Session and Startup > Session). If this file manager is not Thunar, there is also a good chance that it trying to manage the desktop on startup, which might explain what you are seeing in point #1.
