Windows users can see my shares and list folders but can't access them

I configured samba to use usershares and I wanted to share some folders with my Windows 10 laptop. I can see my samba server computer on Windows, access it, list folders but I can't access them. It also does not work for shares specified in smb.conf.

My smb.conf

I don't think the problem is likely in the smb.conf, more likely permissions of the shared folders/files. You might also play with guest and public options. Try playing with the [public] directory first open it all the way up via linux (sudo chmod 777 foldername) and see if that helps, the entry itself seems open already (writable=yes), so try permissions.

As bcw142 said, it's most likely a permissions issue. The samba and linux(!) user your windows laptop is accessing the share with must have access rights to the share. I remember that confusing the hell out of me when I shared a folder within my home folder and no one could access it via smb, even though I gave the right permissions to the smb user.

OK I want to mostly use my usershares, not the shares specified straight in smb.conf file. Firstly I have to say that I followed this guide: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sa … share_path
I am in sambashare group and samba user is also in this group (but I am using guest mode, no login).

Here is chmod of my usershares folder:

drwxrwx--T  2 root sambashare   4096 09-20 21:01 usershares

I use caja to set usershares and here is chmod of folder shared with guest acces and read-only permissions.

-rw-r--r-- 1 ciechomke users 120 09-23 03:10 dokumenty

Is this ok?
ciechomke is my local username

You're missing the 'd' (aka 'x' for directories) on the dokumenty directory. To be able to list a directory, it need "executable" permission along the whole path.

chmod u+X directory

for user (owner)

chmod g+X directory

for group
Also, even if you add those, only your local user will be able to access them. If you want guest to be able to access them, you will need to add executable permissions on that directory for "others" as well.

chmod o+X directory

Or all at once with

chmod +X directory

And it's still not working. Same error on windows.

Do you have a samba user named "ciechomke"? Created with

# smbpasswd -a ciechomke

as opposed to the regular useradd.
