[SOLVED] Battle.net does not launch after install on PlayOnLinux

Dear All,

I am a new Arch user and I am having some trouble with PlayOnLinux. I want to play Hearthstone. Therefore, I tried to install Battle.net first. Installation went fine, however, Battle.net won't launch when I click on run. Nothing happens at all. These are the steps I took:

(1) Create new virtual drive
(2) Override: dbghelp (disabled)
(3) Override: msvcp100 (native, builtin)
(4) Download the English (EU) Battle.net app
(5) Install the Battle.net app
(6) Create an icon for "Battle.net Launcher.exe"

The virtual drive is configured for 64 bit apps with Wine 1.7.51

Am I doing something wrong? Can someone please help me play Hearthstone on Arch?

Kind regards,

Calucinho

Same issue here.

Used the automated install script, everything seems to install correctly. When I want to run the game nothing happens, but after a short period of time the battle.net updater shows for a brief second and then dissapears.

I think this don't have anything to do with Arch and is more dependant of the hardware that you are using. I can't get in to work in my laptop, but I don't have any problems in my computer. Just to be sure, I uninstalled and reinstalled it in my computer with the official script, and everything went perfectly.

Have you checked your graphic drivers? Knowing the hardware that you are using can be helpful.

Re: [SOLVED] Battle.net does not launch after install on PlayOnLinux

Hi Kurolox,

Thank you for your reply.

Battle.net was working for me a while back on Chakra. So I do not think my hardware is at fault here. Currently, I am at work so I cannot give you any detailed information. Here is what I know by heart:

- CPU: Intel Core i7 2670m
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 540m

These are 2011'ish internals on the Dell XPS 15 L502X laptop.

I am using Bumblebee with NVIDIA drivers (this also worked for me on Chakra).

Kind regards,

Calucinho

Don't get me wrong, I didn't mean that your hardware is faulty, but more that the hardware was the one causing this problems.

Seems like we have a gt XXXm, so I believe there's a problem with the drivers. I cannot help you here because I don't have the nvidia drivers configured in this laptop (Every time that I tried to enable bumblebee or something nvidia related I wasn't able to get graphics and broke everything), but I'm fairly sure that there's a problem with the drivers.

I hope that someone can help you furher than me.

No worries Kurolox, I was not offended at all. Maybe a poor choice of words on my part.

I also do not think it is related to the drivers because I had the exact same setup on Chakra. Anyways thank you for your support.

Can I provide any more info to help solve this problem? Maybe terminal output of PlayOnLinux? Still at work though...

This POL thread seems relevant.

It went away on its own for me.
https://www.playonlinux.com/en/topic-13 … tml#m55511 is an easy workaround, but I got high CPU use for some reason, no matter if I minimized or closed the window after Bnet launched.

I'm not using PoL, but try something like

cd ~.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Battle.net && wine Battle.net.exe

Re: [SOLVED] Battle.net does not launch after install on PlayOnLinux

Thanks toz and karol for the help. I, however, did not manage to get it to work according to the suggestions on the POL thread. Although, I did get it to work by doing 2 other things:

(1) sudo ln -s /usr/lib32/libncursesw.so.6 /usr/lib32/libncursesw.so.5
(2) install "lib32-libldap"

I did this because of errors spitted out by wine. Apparently it was looking for "libncurses.so.5", but my system has "libncurses.so.6". I already had "libldap" installed, but according to this thread "lib32-libldap" is needed anyways.

I have now played two rounds of practice and everything works like a charm. Thanks for all the help.

EDIT (24/09/2015)
I removed the symlink and it appears I do not need it after all.

Are you sure you need the symlink? When did you get the wine libncurses.so.5 error? Did wine refused to start or what?

Hi karol, I removed the symlink and I can still play Hearthstone. It appears I do not need the symlink.
