Linux 4.1 won't boot on Dell Latitude ST

Hello all,

I recently updated a Dell Latitude ST tablet that i have and which had been offline for some months.

After running a full system update and rebooting, the system will no longer boot.

The kernel starts loading but suddenly prints the following messages and then the computer just turns off:

i2c-designware-pci 0000:00:1f.0: I/O memory remapping failed
i2c-designware-pci: probe of 0000:00:1f.0 failed with error -22

I tried booting the system with different live CD's but any kernel after and including 4 will crash in the same way.
I am currently using the arch 201504 live cd to boot and it boots successfully however it also prints the following message:

i2c-designware-pci 0000:00:1f.0: I/O memory remapping failed
i2c-designware-pci: probe of 0000:00:1f.0 failed with error -22
ioremap error for 0x7f0ed000-0x7f0ee000, requested 0x2, got 0x0
gma500 000:00:02.0: Unable to read GCT!
gma500 000:00:02.0: HDMI I2C initialization failed!

I suspect that the GMA500 driver is to blame as the same error crops up during boot with the older kernel before
the screen resolution changes (indicating that the gma500_gfx module has loaded?) while the new kernel just turns
off the PC after the error comes up.

Also i am not sure if it's relevant but when i tried to get the kernel output over a serial to usb converter using the following boot arguments:

console=tty0 console=ttyUSB0,115200n8

nothing happened.

I will keep trying to get a full boot log but meanwhile has anyone encountered a similar issue?

Sorry for the long post.
