fox 1.6 upgrade and xfe

I have shared my problem Here but got no answer so I'm starting a new thread as the other one was kind of a highjack anyway.

After fox upgrade to 1.6, xfe stopped working. When I start it, xfe is looking for version 1.4 of fox.

xfe: error while loading share libraries: libFOX-1.4.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

How would you guys suggest I fix this?

Thank you for your time and effort

Re: fox 1.6 upgrade and xfe

use abs to recompile xfe against the new fox version, am not at my arch box so cant verify this works it may need an earlier version of fox as the api has changed in the latest relaese

Re: fox 1.6 upgrade and xfe

from xfe website:

System Requirements

Xfe is written in C++ and built using the FOX graphical toolkit library, therefore:
- For versions of Xfe prior to 0.70, you need the FOX library 1.0.x.
- For versions of Xfe prior to 0.80, you need the FOX library 1.2.x.
- For versions 0.80+, you need the FOX library 1.4.x.

Notes: Xfe 0.80 and above do not compile with the new 1.6.x versions of FOX! UTF-8 is not actually supported.

Re: fox 1.6 upgrade and xfe

The answer was actually in that other thread i.e. downgrade fox to the previous version:

pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/fox-1.4.24-3.pkg.tar.gz

I've also put it in pacman.conf as NoUpgrade.

If/when the xfe dev releases a version based on fox 1.6, then we can upgrade.

Re: fox 1.6 upgrade and xfe

Thanx for this tomk, but my problem is I have recently cleaned up my pacman cache. Unfortunately, that means I no longer have the package fox 1.4 and it's not in the repo anymore.

I guess I will have to put together a PKGBUILD to install it. I have not yet figured out how to work with ABS and I really have no time available right now so I guess it'll have to wait. It's just not a good time for me at the end of semester like that  sad

Anyway, thanks for answering

Forget about ABS for the moment -it's not something you want to rush.

I've put the right version of fox online for you here.

Enjoy. smile
