pulse audio / hdmi issue

My issue is that I am getting "no cards available for configuration" in pavucontrol and only a dummy card option. However this only happens when my laptop is shutdown with the HDMI audio output active or being used. So basically, watch a film, turn laptop off, turn it back on the next day to watch a film and have the issue.

If I am using my laptop for something else, like playing a game on speakers or headphones, then the issue isn't there and when I restart the laptop, I have all the options available.

If I wait about 10 - 15 minutes and do other stuff on the laptop once the issue has happened first time, it will fix itself.

I dont expect a fix, as I appreciate my system is unique, but if someone could let me know where I should be looking? I have googled and cant find any related issues, just some old stuff to do with user groups, but I am sure systemd should sort this out as my profile has been set up properly.

Thanks in advance
