Re: Black buffer around desktop, GTX 650 Ti, nvidia 355.11, kernel 4.2.2

Seeing something similar (likeky) on the VGA output since the 355 driver. DVI is not affected, but VGA only fills like 4:3 on a 16:10 screen.
The resolution (1440x900) is ok and so is the monitor. Also (and that may be a difference?) if I pass the screen a 4:3 resolution (XGA) the monitor stretches it (by setting) across the entire panel.

=> I suspect a bug in the nvidia driver, affecting the analog output.

Something similar happening here. I have ugly fonts, the content of the screen is squeezed (narrower), and there black buffers around the desktop. That happens only after I startx (gtx 960). ttys have full screen resolution. It started to happen sometime ago. In xubuntu, it doesn't happen, but it is an older nvidia driver.

Re: Black buffer around desktop, GTX 650 Ti, nvidia 355.11, kernel 4.2.2

I finally updated my system and got this issue too. Any driver version >=353 causes this for me, so I made some AUR packages that install the latest 352 drivers (352.63 at the current time).

Look for nvidia-352, nvidia-utils-352, nvidia-libgl-352 and opencl-nvidia-352 in AUR. I'll maintain them until NVIDIA fixes their crap.

Re: Black buffer around desktop, GTX 650 Ti, nvidia 355.11, kernel 4.2.2

@drewwalton19216801 Thanks. I am trying to install these (which are the versions ubuntu 15.10 currently provides by default) but I am getting problems with dependencies.

Anyway, I plugged a different (and bigger monitor) and the problem simply disappeared. It seems for some reason the nvidia driver is just not handling "this" monitor correctly. Perhaps there is a setting I can force on nvidia/xorg for this particular monitor. I'll try to figure out.

EDIT: By the way, when I look at xfce display config, I see resolution: 1360x768, refresh rate: 60. It is the same both in arch and xubuntu. Just that the newer driver is not working properly (perhaps with some monitors only, not all, idk.)
