USB hub causing freeze

Hi everyone, I've narrowed my problem down to my USB hub.  Here is a video of the problem, because it is hard to describe.  I'm hoping somebody can tell me what piece of software is likely the culprit.  Some driver, or X.org, or gnome, or something else?

I can't get your video to play, but how do you know it's not simply the hub?  Also, not sure if you realize, but that video link gives away your geographic location.
