Another shutdown/reboot failures! Current ideas so far not helped :-(

Hi all

I recently bought a Acer Aspire ES1-711-P1UV. It had windows 8 and I removed the hdd it came with and put an SSD and installed arch on it. I also have lubuntu on it.

For the most part it is good. However it refuses to handle the poweroff and reboot. I tried systemctl poweroff, systemctl reboot, poweroff, shutdown -r now etc.
Basically it seem to stop everything, shows a message about cgroups - according to my reading so far this is unrelated to the problem. Then the laptop carries on with fan noise.

If I had issued reboot then the screen goes black but the reset does not happen for the computer to start again.
If I had issued poweroff then it shows the cgroups message and stays there grinning!

Same problem exists in lubuntu. I never had this issue with arch/linux before. May be I got lucky :-)

Any ideas/help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

uname -a shows:
Linux sreelap 4.2.2-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Sep 29 22:21:33 CEST 2015 x86_64 GNU/Linux

systemctl --failed says:
0 loaded units listed. Pass --all to see loaded but inactive units, too.
To show all installed unit files use 'systemctl list-unit-files'.

I already blacklisted:
blacklist acer_wmi
blacklist dw_dmac
blacklist dw_dmac_core

journalctl -b -1 gives: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=bVrBhfsY

lsmod shows: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=AmBaqYSr

ps ax shows http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=RYtLQ0qq

grub.cfg kernel line as follows:
linux    /boot/vmlinuz-linux root=UUID=18cc214f-3cc0-43ff-9bad-f7f2074259aa rw  quiet

I tried acpi=off - resulting in failed boot!
I tried reboot=acpi and reboot=bios on seperate occasions and still no better!
