I just installed Arch and managed to set up everything using the official documentation, except one thing, the spell checking.
My language is brazilian portuguese, so I installed aspell-pt and rebooted the system, but it doesn't work. SubtitleEditor and Empathy don't check the spelling. My language appears under Empathy settings, but if I tick the check box and hit the apply button it doesn't work, when I open the settings again the option is unticked. Also, Empathy lists the hebrew dictionary as available, but the package is not installed, SubtitleEditor also displays the hebrew dictionary, but in this case as the only option.
I appreciate any help.

I managed to solve the problem myself.
I installed the package hunspell-pt-br from AUR repository and Empathy automatically detected the dictionary, but it didn't worked for SubtitleEditor. I fixed the issue in SubtitleEditor by editing the config file located on: ~/.config/subtitleeditor/default/config
Replacing:
[spell-checker]
lang=he
With:
[spell-checker]
lang=pt_BR
