thermald any good?

I am running arch on a Dell XPS 15 9530 (Intel Haswell CPU i7-4702HQ) and wonder if thermald is actually doing anything good ?
I haven really found anything. Some say it doesn't do anything but then they also state that no one actually has a clue on how to configure thermald. Most thread are ~1 year old so I thought it is time to ask again:

Is thermald any good? Does anyone have a guide on how to correctly configure it ?

According to intel it is a must have tool for "modern" CPU's.

Thanks !

@edit: According to the AUR package and to the arch wiki thermald doesnt need lm_sensor and sensors-detect... but according to the manjaro wiki it is need:

Before install thermald please install and configure propertly lm_sensors by command sudo pacman -S lm_sensors && sudo sensors-detect

Seeing that many people don't notice and effect with thermald, I wonder if their mistake was the missing "lm_sensors and sensors-detect" package ?
