Laptop Broken Graphics Card -> use just partially?

Hi,
I've just installed Arch Linux on my laptop.
The laptop has a AMD/ATI Radeon HD 6650M in it, which was overheating while playing a game when I was younger and not noticing that the fan was blocked by dust.
Since then I always get some "$"-signs sprayed over my display when in the initial framebuffer with low resolution, so the graphics card is broken.
As soon as I'm in GRUB2 the graphics look just normal. But when Arch boots, it uses that low-res framebuffer again and the "$"-signs show up again vanishing when completely booted.
My question is now, being unable to change the graphics card due to it being soldered and built in the mainboard,
if someone can say which part of the graphics card is broken (e.g. memory block,...) and if I could use the card with not using this part of it?

When booting with Arch trying to use the AMD card and not handling the work over to the processor, it obviously fails to properly initialise the card

I hope someone can answer this question even if it's that it is completely lost. Then I'll just use the not accellerated cpu.
