Hello,
I have a little thing here... and i wanna ask you for help...
So the story goes like this:
Had W7, updated to W10 and random shutdowns started to occur. I was sure the overheating was causing this so i wanted to clean my laptop and in mean while i istalled arch. Ofc, it didnt help. Eventually
dmesg | grep -i acpi
told me this:
[Firmware Bug]: ACPI: BIOS _OSI(Linux) query ignored
ACPI Error: [CDW1] Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND (20110112/psargs-359)
ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0._OSC] (Node f3425468), AE_NOT_FOUND (20110112/psparse-536)
From what i understand When upgrading from W7 to W10 OS become corrupted > BIOS pulled ACPI info from OS (this would explain why this nightmare is OS-indipendent and occures in BIOS too) > Every OS i try to install (which is not so easy since it shuts down in the middle of installation) fail. For now im using old installation of ubuntu i had on some random hdd, and in like one month i had 1 shutdown.
Maybe im wrong but this doesnt matter, i came here, today to ask for a little mercy...
PS. BIOS flashing is suicide right now.

Welcome to Arch Linux.
Moving to Installation.
You might tell us what make and model is the machine. Also, be aware we can help you with Arch Linux only. For Ubuntu, we will refer you to their forums.
FWIW
[Firmware Bug]: ACPI: BIOS _OSI(Linux) query ignored
can just be ignored. I think the other messages are benign as well. At least I do not think they are related to your problem.
Does the laptop have a log that you can get to from the BIOS/Firmware setup functions that tell you why it shut down?

Tomorrow i will try to post something. Anyway from what im reading it looks like system halts because of overheating - the problem is, it doesnt overheat... i may also try to install arch with acpi=off.
Dmesg
give me this:
ACPI: Thermal Zone [THRM] (46 C)
Meh, it looks like its a bad moment to be a linux newbe...

I still think if you told is the make and model it might be helpful. You might want to read the article linked in my signature.

And here is the story as detailed as i remember:
>Upgraded from W7 to W10 and random halts started, but only after playing some games on facebook for few minutes
>Installed lated ubuntu, and nothing changer realy
>Installed Arch and it seemed like issue was gone but honestly i just used web browser for few days so i cant tall
>Opened laptop, cleaned it, changed thermal compound
>Booted arch and halts where immediate after boot
>I tried installing W7 or Ubuntu but i cant complete the installation process because of halts.
>Tought it may be some settings in BIOS. There is not realy any option to change other than Ahci, multicore, Execute Disable Bit.
>Also while in BIOS i noticed it halts here too.
>Tried memtest86 - halt. Tried 3 ramstics but its all the same.
>Out of despair i tried to boot from old hdd with ubuntu 10.04 - it works! I had only 1 halt when playing Urban Terror for like 40min. But since i cant install anything on this outdated mess i use only firefox and its just fine.
And one more thing: Befor halting, fan starts to spin fast for few seconds. Temps are ~40°C.

Check that the fans have an air gap available.
P.S. Sensor readings are often inaccurate (wrong placement, poor calibration etc. - search on a good tech site like silentpcreview.com on the matter)

Yes, they have. As i said, temps are all good, at least this is what sensors are reporting.
...............
I mean, even if it was overheating (and it was befor i cleaned it with temps above 70°C), everything started to happen after upgrade to W10.
