[SOLVED] No sound in applications

Hey guys. Linux noob here, but I did manage to get Arch installed last night with some troubleshooting involved. This problem seems to be beyond my googling abilities. I'm running Xfce4. I have a Creative X-Fi Titanium installed and speaker-test works on both my optical out and my 3.5mm out (simultaneously, which is an issue I've had with every distro I've tried). Sorry for the lack of relevant information as I'm not really sure what you guys need, but would seriously appreciate some help.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I have unmuted all channels in alsamixer.

Edit2: Ok something else interesting. When I go to alsa mixer from terminal it defaults to "Card: PulseAudio" and "Chip: PulseAudio". This also only shows a single channel in playback that is open. It appears this is the "default" selection. I can use F6 to select my card, but this doesn't provide me with any sound.

Re: [SOLVED] No sound in applications

Are you running pulse audio?
And, if so, will you install and run pavucontrol

That worked! Sound working perfectly now! Would it be too much to ask why?

What worked?  Installing pavucontrol?
It might be that pulse was not being set up correctly and that pavucontrol set pulseaudo's configuration correctly.

I was going to walk you through configuration with pavucontrol  smile

Glad it is working.

Re: [SOLVED] No sound in applications

Thanks a TON. The whole process was a little overwhelming! So I may need a touch more help as youtube now plays sound, but I still have no sound in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Edit: Nevermind I just had to go into pavucontrol and set CSGO to the correct sound card. Thanks a lot!
