Kodi boots up into a black screen

I have kodi start up at full screen after boot. The open source driver in use is radeon. My monitor displays 4K at 30 Hz and the resulting resolution is good for viewing. I am current with the kernels and drivers. However over the last month or so it boots up to a full black screen. My remedy has always been to do a fresh reinstall of kodi with the default configuration. After it fixes the full black screen issue, I replace the default configuration with my customized one . Now this remedy doesn't seem to guarantee success always.
The kodi forum suggested methods mentioned below also did not work for me :
-using the "\" for collapsing the full black screen to window mode
-editing the guisettings.xml to replace the word "DESKTOP" with "WINDOW"
Anybody with any other suggestions/pointers etc?

Re: Kodi boots up into a black screen

I'm guessing you are booting to Kodi using the systemd kodi service? I don't know what is causing your black screen problem, but maybe as a workaround you could set up sddm to automatically log in as a user into the kodi desktop. Or, have it open a minimalist window manager like Fluxbox that automatically starts Kodi in fullscreen mode.

My HTPC is set up this way. Fluxbox automatically starts steam in the background and Kodi in the foreground, fullscreen.
