Is there a way to make modern USB3 docking stations work under Linux?

Yes, plug them in. Works for me.

What happens when you try?
I have tried both "SHARKOON DriveLink Combo USB3.0 harddisk-adapter for 2.5"/ 3.5"/ 5.25" IDE og SATA via USB 3.0" and "Icy Box model IB-121CL-6G" with an 8TB Seagate Archive. After transferring a bunch of files, rsync quits with the following message:
rsync: write failed on "/media/BUP_SEC/moromappe/Funnet/Klovn.txt": No space left on device (28)
rsync error: error in file IO (code 11) at receiver.c(393) [receiver=3.1.1]
Dolphin sees the drive, but reports only 39.2 GiB available, while the drive is empty and has 7.28 TiB available.
Also, neither Dolphin, nor ls or du see more than 155 files out of at least 1300 files transferred (before rsync stops).
I have had external USB harddisks working just fine, so what is so different with a docking station?

So it's a disk enclosure, not docking station?
Start with checking dmesg.

What's in a name?
The manufacturer calls it a "Docking and Clon Station".

I finally realized one must use "/run/username/media/drive-label".
Icy Box is now working flawlessly.
Thanks to everybody who tried to help!
