This may sound odd. Each time the NVidia drivers update, I use unigine to test (usually valley, but also heaven because I like the experience). However, with heaven, parts of the audio are missing, what I will call the melody. it's hard to describe, the beat, the bass, and the violins are there, but the melody is suddenly missing. It's not related to the unigine settings (as in everything from basic, to ultra, to custom with everything maxed out) is the same. If this was the first time I'd used it, I probably wouldn't even notice, but it isn't, and I do. It hasn't been updated since forever, so that's not it.
Any ideas?

I had a similar problems and the trick was to install a sound library from multilib; maybe lib32-mpg123 but I do not rember exactly. With a few trials, you should find it.

Sorry to revive this old thread, but on the off chance it may help someone.
Today, I got my answer (by chance, not hunting for it) and it's a little embarrassing. I have a 5:1 setup, with the two front speakers and centre speaker on my desk. Dunno why I haven't noticed before now (maybe I'm going deaf) but the left and right front speakers were plugged into the wrong jack. The centre speaker was disguising it (my excuse and I'm sticking to it). Plugged them in to the correct jack and full sound is restored.
Like I said, kind of embarrassed, but a lesson to check the obvious before crying about it.
