I really hate to look like a "help vampire", but I was so confused with it.
$ grub-install -v
grub-install (GRUB) 2.02~beta2
So, is that GRUB legacy version 2.0 (is there such thing?) or GRUB2.
What about (GRUB) 1.99 ?
A quick search on google and I don't see anywhere explicitly mentioned about it.
Help appreciated.

Definitely grub2. I think "legacy" was up to version 0.97 then they went to version 2.0 (known as grub2).
Distrowatch is a good resource for looking at old common package version numbers and their approximate dates.
Clicking on the package name will also bring you to the upstream development website for that package.
The Arch page here isn't so good at looking for old package versions because it's rolling release but you can see the
old versions of grub from this link to their fedora page.
