Pacman could not satisfy dependencies

Hey everyone, this is my first question and i'm not sure if it should be here or the newbie corner, because either i'm doing something really dumb or there is something wrong with my system. when i try to update my system, pacman throws this:

error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: catalyst-utils: requires xorg-server<1.18.0

So far i have tried: --ignore and IgnorePkg, in both cases i have excluded catalyst-utils, by itself, and all the catalyst related packages. I've even tried commenting out the whole catalyst repository. Nothing has worked.

For the record, i'm using Vi0l0's repository.

Re: Pacman could not satisfy dependencies

I'm guessing xorg-server is the package being updated to 1.18, but that fails because catalyst doesn't work with that version (at least yet). That would explain why ignoring catalyst packages doesn't help.

As for now catalyst doesn't support xserver 1.18, for newcomers there's [xorg117] repo available.

Re: Pacman could not satisfy dependencies

Yeah, I tried something similar but i guess i have to remove the Xorg 1.18 package for the 1.17 to be installed, should i just uninstall it?

What exactly is something similar?
Unless you've been using a different driver, the problem is xorg-server is trying to upgrade and the new version won't work with catalyst. So you need to ignore xorg-server (and related packages) not catalyst.

Re: Pacman could not satisfy dependencies

xorg 1.18 shouldn't be installed in your system, since catalyst dependencies wouldn't allow you to upgrade to it. So I don't know what you mean by uninstalling it.

It's best to either enable the [xorg117] repo for now, that Vi0L0 mentioned on the ATI thread, or use open source drivers.

Re: Pacman could not satisfy dependencies

Sorry for taking so long to answer, i kind of broke the system trying to fix it. Now everything is all right. I thought that i had to uninstall the current xorg from the extra repo for xorg117 to work. That's what i did, although it still tries to update to 1.18. Anyway, at least i know the problem now. Thanks everyone.

Re: Pacman could not satisfy dependencies

If it still tries to upgrade to xorg 1.18, make sure you placed the [xorg117] repo above [extra] in your pacman.conf
