[Solved] kdeinit5: Communication error with launcher. Exiting!

Hello experts!

I upgraded last Sunday my KDE to Plasma 5 as wiki suggest.

1) sddm: React very slow. After login it freezes
2) startx variant with startkde: Black screen with nice mouse pointer. Thant's all.
3) startx variant with twm: Works as expectet
4) startx variant with startkde as root: Full working Plasma 5 Desktop

After 'pkill X' variant 2) I got these info:

Hello experts!

Over 100 views but no answer. I guess you miss my logs to investigate the situation. Well, I did not had post some because they looks not as useful. But now I will do it anyway.

I run startx on tty2 by a testuser. After some seconds I kill it on tty1 by my normal user account.

Well. As I switch to Plasma 5, following the Wiki, there occur two surprises.
- After "systemctl isolate multi-user.target" my running KDE disappear and I only could reboot.
- Then, pacman discover a conflict with an existing file. It was a link from qt to qt4 version something dbus IIRC. Sadly couldn't I find it anymore in may bash history because I remove that link (shame on me) and pacman goes on.

Perhaps there is still a package that make the trouble?

Trying to remove some Qt4 package result in removing the new Kde/Plasma stuff too. But perhaps I should try it.

The system is up to date but the situation is still the same.
As a workaround I install lxqt witch works well. But his desktop is showing the root file system with my normal user. The testuser has a clean desktop.

Now any Idea?

Edit: Remove unneeded long log files

Re: [Solved] kdeinit5: Communication error with launcher. Exiting!

"- After "systemctl isolate multi-user.target" my running KDE disappear and I only could reboot." - this is as expected (if I understand correctly). See man systemctl regarding the isolate command. You should be able to re-logon on a VT as root and do your pacman operations. Then reboot.

Regarding sddm instability and slowness: try LXDM instead of sddm. Works fine for me (sddm did not that much in the past).

Sorry, too late to look into your (log) details.

Re: [Solved] kdeinit5: Communication error with launcher. Exiting!

Well, yes. A small note would be nice in the Kde Wiki about the isolate command. Switch to another terminal wasn't possible.

I will try LXDM when Plasma 5 is working and sddm still sucks. On the other hand I begin to like the startx variant too.

Thank you Carl.

Re: [Solved] kdeinit5: Communication error with launcher. Exiting!

Heureka!

$ sudo mv /etc/profile.pacnew /etc/profile

Was the lucky shot. Plasma 5 starts.
My old /etc/profile contains these setting. Adding to the new profile and Plasma hangs again.

##KDE 4.5 specific graphics' issues
export LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1

Anyway. Something is curious. I (still!) found this message in the user Xorg logfile.

xf86EnableIOPorts: failed to set IOPL for I/O (Operation not permitted)

Note, it's not marked as warning nor as error. Because the root log didn't contain these line I thought its important and the reason. But searching the web route me not really to my destination.

They say its fixed, but the OP didn't confirm

They discribe some workaround about rootless x. Playing around with chmod didn't helped.

Merry X-mas! ;-)
