Limiting RAM usage?

Is there any way to tell the kernel to use less RAM than there is available? Like let's say I have 1GB of RAM but I'd like to see how Arch runs when the kernel actually thinks I only have 128MB or 256MB of RAM so it has to start swapping to disk some..

Also, if there's no way for me to test except for to actually install arch on a 128MB ram system, do you think it would become slow? And if so, what could be done to speed things up?

Re: Limiting RAM usage?

You can try the kernel boot option

mem=128M
