ELO touch monitor doesn't send touch events

Hello,

I just found myself possessing an ELO touchscreen (ET1545L-8UWC-1). I plugged in the VGA cable and the monitor part is working out of the box. However, I can't get the touch part to work. It's connected via USB and immediately recognised by the system:

$ lsusb
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 04e7:0007 Elo TouchSystems 2500U IntelliTouch® Touchmonitor Interface

As instructed by the Touchscreen wiki page, I found the monitor in /proc/bus/input/devices:

I: Bus=0003 Vendor=04e7 Product=0007 Version=0100
N: Name="Elo TouchSystems, Inc. Elo TouchSystems IntelliTouch 2500U"
P: Phys=usb-0000:00:1d.0-1.2/input0
S: Sysfs=/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.2/2-1.2:1.0/0003:04E7:0007.0001/input/input17
U: Uniq=070KODAK
H: Handlers=event15 mouse0 js0
B: PROP=0
B: EV=1b
B: KEY=10000 0 0 0 0
B: ABS=10000000003
B: MSC=10

However, when I listen to events with

# cat /dev/input/event15

, nothing happens when I touch the screen.

I've installed the elographics driver, as well as evdev and libinput. According to the manual (pdf), there are Linux drivers available on the website, but after searching www.elotouch.com very thoroughly, I don't believe there are. The model seems to have been discontinued ten years ago, and they have what they call "legacy drivers", but my model is not listed there either.

I borrowed two laptops, Windows 7 and Windows 10. The screen wasn't recognised in the device manager. When I installed the legacy driver, the screen was listed, but perhaps it was a different one than mine, since I probably used a wrong driver. Anyway, it didn't work either.

Apparently, the touch screen should be regocnised by evdev and work out of the box. I don't quite know what else I could do.. I'm very grateful for any hints!

Thanks for reading.

UPDATE

A kind gentleman from Elo Europe responded to my inquiry with the following poem:

If you are working on windows xp or higher ,
there are 2 drivers that should work,
5.5.3 single touch mouse emulation driver
Or 6.7.0 digitized driver

If you are working on linux ,
Version 4.0.1 if connected usb
Or 3.4.0 if connected on serial
All drivers are in this link

He is very right, these drivers are on the website. I tried all both drivers on my Windows systems. The screen is recognised by the device manager, but touch doesn't work. I also tried on Arch, with the USB version. However, the instructions for Linux are not quite Archy, but I did what I could. No success here either, but it might have been my mistake.

I am afraid this touch monitor is broken. If you know a way to confirm this, or even better repair it, please don't be shy and post! As I have reached the end of my knowledge I will stop working on it, I hope that the information provided may be helpful for a future reader.
