Hi folks,
Can packages in [community] (or any official packages for that matter) list AUR packages in their $optdepends?
Background
I've recently been involved in this thread, solving an issue which I believe could be avoided again by listing the required AUR package (freshly uploaded by me) as an optdepend...
optdepends=(... 'python-py3sensors-hg: lm_sensors support' ...)
Before I file a request against glances is this even allowed, or do I have to hope a friendly TU will pick up this simple package and promote it to [community] first?

There's not a consensus on this. Some packages will do it, others won't.

Optdepends is a grey area. No "official" (including community/) should 'depend' on an AUR package, but as optdepends are, well, optional, there's no real rule against it.

Wow, that was super quick
I was still finishing my post (I accidently hit Submit instead of Preview) and you folks had already answered.
I'll file a request and see what happens then.

Make sure to do a search first of closed tickets, make sure it hasn't been requested before.

I am of the opinion that we should not optdepend on an AUR package in the main repors.

Of course, filing a coherent request is important, too.
Edit: And I warned you to search first...

Sorry about the noise, I'm on my low-tech phone at the moment and my bug searches weren't showing any results.

Listing an AUR package in optdepends provide one advantage: the package may be installed with --asdeps and pacman will see a connection between the two. Management is more convenient this way.
However, it should be clearly stated that the package is AURish.
Sometimes I seem a bit harsh — don’t get offended too easily!
