[SOLVED] Booting from M.2 disks?

Hi,

I am going to build new machine and I would like to use 950 Pro M.2 disk as main drive. Does Linux boot from MVMe drives or do I have to go with something more standard such as sata ssd. I plan to go with Asus maximus viii hero board and 256 gig 950 pro as main os drive, just wonder if there are compatibility issues with m.2 disks.

AFAIK Linux is capable of booting from NVMe drives. Just make sure that your mobo's UEFI supports booting from them.

Currently grub in Arch (and maybe other distros) does not support having /boot (--boot-directory to be precise) on an NVMe partition though, since we are using ancient "beta release" instead of git snapshot: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/47447

Other bootloaders may work, but I have never tested myself.

Yes NVMe drives shouldn't pose a problem. I use one with systemd-boot here, works like a charm.

If your issue has been resolved please edit your original post and add [SOLVED] to the beginning of the title so others can benefit from the thread.
