setup network card from install cd

Hello!
I'm trying to install a fresh copy of arch on my computer. I want to do a FTP install since I think it's better to get all the new packets at once instead of installing old and then upgrade. Now, the thing is the nic setup from the installer don't seem to be able to set up my network for some reason... I need help to figure this out. It says dhcpcd failed...
I have two nics on my computer, one is onboard 8139too and the other one is pci via-rhine. I don't use the pci one for the standard internet connection, but I need it later so I don't want to take it out. Not even temporarly if it's that which disturbs things for me, since I think it's a good oportunity to learn something (as most my arch experiences so far!)
I tried to google some information, but I couldn't figure it out...

Re: setup network card from install cd

Did you

modprobe -v 8139too via-rhine

manually? If this doesn't work, you can still install the packages from the CD and run pacman -Syu right after the first boot.

Re: setup network card from install cd

I didn't pass the -v option to modprobe, but that should only print some stuff that modprobe is doing. If there's errors using modprobe it should print it out always anyway? At least, that's how I understood the man page...

Re: setup network card from install cd

So you modprobed the correct modules, but you can't obtain an IP?

Does "dhcpcd eth0" give you any useful information?

Re: setup network card from install cd

Before dhcpcd can get an IP, you have to make sure your network card is recognized (check "ifconfig eth0"), your DHCP server is working and the cables are connected correctly.
