Have you installed a package which provides sendmail?
Here are a few of them
$ pkgfile /usr/bin/sendmail
extra/msmtp-mta
extra/postfix
extra/ssmtp
community/esmtp
community/exim
community/nullmailer
community/opensmtpd

[lee@matrix Desktop]$ sendmail: error in offline directory setup

Ok, you've installed it. Have you configured it? Have you started it?
