Mounting usb? [SOLVED]

Where do I find it? I can mount rom's/isos and harddrives but don't know where to find the memory.

Re: Mounting usb? [SOLVED]

If you want to mount a USB drive this is the simplest way to do it:
1. plug the USB drive in one of the ports
2. open a terminal/console and type : dmesg to find out what device is assigned to the usb.
3. Say (in the previous step) you found it to be sdb1, then you create a mount point for it (as root) mkdir /mnt/usbhd
4. You can now effectively proceed to mount the device: mount -t vfat /dev/sdb1 /mnt/usbhd
Now ... to access the contents of the usb you can navigate to the directory /mnt/usbhd and see the files, or what I like to do is in my home directory (as myself , not root) make a symlink, like this: ln -s /mnt/usbhd  USB, so from there on, once you mount the drive you access the contents in your home directory in the USB directory.

If you use KDE you can also make an icon on the desktop to mount the drive.

Hope this helps.

Re: Mounting usb? [SOLVED]

the -t  vfat  specifies what filetype to use, I've never had a problem not including it for usb drives though. You might want to add an entry to fstab so you can be even shorter. This is the line from mine as an example:

/dev/sda1       /mnt/usbdrive   vfat    user,noauto             0       0

In case you don't know, the user option lets this work without being root, and noautio means it doesn't get mounted when booting.

Re: Mounting usb? [SOLVED]

Nice! I guess I should do that with my dvd-drive so I don't have to mount it every time I insert the disk. Thanks!
