hwd -x aborts [Solved - work around]

I changed monitors this afternoon, and thought it best to re-setup Xorg.  I ran hwd -x to get my config file, but it gave me the following output and error:

Generating /etc/X11/xorg.conf.hwd
*** glibc detected *** realloc(): invalid next size: 0x080541f0 ***
/usr/bin/mkxcfg: line 293:  3296 Aborted                 lshwd -a -ox -m >$LISTFILE
Your sample file is ready.

If I try to startx, I get an error that at least 1 device section is needed.

My X system was running fine until I changed monitors and re-ran hwd (of course, I was brain-dead and didn't save my old conf files)   sad  What is going on here?

What does the 'Section "Device"' in your xorg.conf look like??

There is no Device section.  I guess I'll have to build the xorg.conf manually.  Any idea what's happening to make the auto setup fail?

Use Xorg -configure to get your initial config file. This suits me better than any other X configuration tool.

You can also use:
Xorg   -configure
to generate a xorg.conf file.

The Xorg -configure setup worked fine.  Just a problem of not thinking outside the box, I guess.   Thanks
