[workaround]Firefox 44 font matching

Looking at the release notes of Firefox 44, it says that they changed something with the font matching in linux.

I immediately noticed that the font looks different now (check the screenshot). It seems to be thinner. This concerns only the font used in the menus, etc. The actual websites still look ok. Is there any way to restore the old font rendering? I have the infinality-bundle installed. I am not sure, if that changes anything.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, that my default font is configured as DejaVu Sans in gtkrc, gtk3/settings.ini etc.

Re: [workaround]Firefox 44 font matching

I see the same thing here, but only while running Firefox in KDE.

EDIT: It seems that for some reason Firefox is choosing "ExtraLight" variant of DejaVu instead of "Book". I "fixed" it by choosing another font for GTK apps.

Re: [workaround]Firefox 44 font matching

Do you think that there is any way to force GTK applications to use DejaVu Sans Book?
Anyway, that has been my setting all along. In both .gtkrc-2.0 and .config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini gtk-font-name is set to DejaVu Sans Book 10.

Regarding the desktop environment: I am using i3, but I recently migrated from KDE, so I am still using the Breeze GTK theme. I have not yet tried to use another DE.

Try to set the config key 'gfx.font_rendering.fontconfig.fontlist.enabled' to false in about:config ?

Re: [workaround]Firefox 44 font matching

Thanks, changing the setting in about:config did the trick.

Re: [workaround]Firefox 44 font matching

Unfortunately it's still not fixed in ff 45 with DejaVu fonts despite the status-firefox45: fixed flag on the bug above.
Does anybody else still have this problem or maybe it's already reported somewhere on the bugtracker that fix has failed?

Re: [workaround]Firefox 44 font matching

I can confirm that it is not fixed in firefox 45.

However, I am wondering if there is any downside to using the above mentioned workaround?

Re: [workaround]Firefox 44 font matching

According to comment from a related bug it's not a permanent solution nor the entirely harmless one.
P.S. It looks like this bug, at least font styles are ignored/messed up just like here.
