fvwm2 Fonts

I've just moved back to using fvwm2-devel,  and my old config file seems to work just fine, except no matter what I change my foreground colour to,  the fonts always come out black.  I've been through most if not all of the font documentation in the forums and wiki,  I can change the fonts just fine, and they look right,  just always black...

Here's the relevant portions of my .fvwm2rc:

Colorset 20 RootTransparent, tint black 50, fg white
Colorset 18 RootTransparent, tint grey  25, fg midnightblue, hi white
Style * Font        "Shadow=1:xft:Bitstream Vera Sans Mono:style=normal:size=14"
TitleStyle  Active Colorset 20
TitleStyle  Inactive Colorset 18

The fonts are black in Fvwm-Crystal too..
So the config file is probably irrelevant
Sigh..
