I have jabber account on pidgin with privacy settings to only receive messages from people in my contact list.
Nevertheless I keep getting these:

Both windows always appear together. One XMPP Error Message and one message.
Contacts and content of these messages varies, but they're usually russian.
How come I keep getting those when my privacy settings are set to block anything that doesn't come from my contacts?
And why do they come with these error messages? Has anybody encountered this before?

Why Linux? Because it doesn't hide anything from you. It puts you so closely in control of your machine that you can feel its heartbeat.

Report the bug upstream. My wild guess is that Pidgin’s error dialogs don’t take into account privacy settings and don’t filter out error messages that are obviously spoofed.
Sometimes I seem a bit harsh — don’t get offended too easily!

From what I can understand, pidgin only supports XEP-0191, which only seems to support per user blocking. Pidgin's privacy settings depend on the protocol you use.
Moving to "Applications and Desktop Environments".
