Brightness changing at random intervals

Hi all,

I have installed Arch onto my new laptop and for some reason my brightness changes at random intervals and I cannot figure out what is causing it. What it seems to do most of the time is adjust one brightness level down, then after another random interval it would adjust the brightness another level down. Occasionally it will also do the opposite and at a random interval will adjust the brightness one level up. It's driving me nuts!

I was using Gnome 3.18 and I unchecked all the options regarding automatically dimming the display but the problem would still occur. I also poked around in the Gnome Tweak tool and couldn't find anything there that could disable the automatic brightness changing. So I thought maybe it was just Gnome and I installed KDE Plasma 5. And now I have the exact same issue within KDE as well so it seems it's not the DE that is changing the brightness.

Anyone have any ideas?

System:
MSI GE62 6QC Skylake
Optimus laptop with Intel HD530 and GTX 960M
xf86-video-intel with proprietary Nvidia driver using Bumblebee and bbswitch to disable the 960m

Re: Brightness changing at random intervals

Have you possibly installed some energy saving program like tlp or laptop-mode-tools?

Re: Brightness changing at random intervals

A friend of mine has the exact same issue. It happens with all Linux distros, even RemixOS (the Android desktop thing).

EDIT: Saw your reddit thread and saw that you suggested this post: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php … st13465220

I will ask him to do it. Hopefully it works.
