Hi,
I'm having a strange problem with this (new) hard drive. After a short while it starts to make a lot of noise as if it's doing a lot of seeks. Then I/O hangs with messages like:

Eventually all attempt to access the filesystem result in I/O errors.
I'd be perfectly prepared to blame this on a faulty drive except that it only happens when booting off that drive. Booting from a USB drive and accessing the disc works fine (ie. installing arch is fine, and even "cat /dev/sda > /dev/null" is no problem). smartctl reports no problems with the drive either. I've also tried the LTS kernel which, if anything, made the problem worse.
Can anyone help?

This indeed looks like the disk is going mad. It shouldn't really disappear for 10 seconds.
Do you have logs after "EH complete"? BTW, use code tags for this stuff.

Irritatingly this stopped happening for ages. However something similar just happened again. Noisy disc for a period with stuck I/O. Seemed to get back out of it this time:
