How can I debug whats wrong with external HDMI monitor?

Hi

After kernel upgrade from linux-4.3.3-3 my external HDMI moitor on an lenovo laptop with intel chipset (i915)has just stopped working. Downgrading kernel makes it work again, so I don't think the problem is with cable or hardware.

I'm not experienced in debugging a functionalist HDMI monitor so I wonder if someone could share the commands and maybe even a little info on procedure to find out if this is a kernel issue or if it got something to do with X?

Appreciated!

Can you check what messages you get with dmesg -w when you plug in the cable?
