I got a new laptop and every time I put a new HDD into it, the Power-Off_Retract_Count in SMART increases around 100 000 every minute, ending up in several millions a day. I tried three new disks already.
For example, here are the SMART results of a brand new sealed disk I mounted this morning. It started at Power-Off_Retract_Count 0. These are results after roughly one day, couple of minutes apart. Yes, couple of minutes apart

I don't think this is normal, is it?
This is a ThinkPad so I had HDAPSD installed, but I disabled it. It did not stop the increase of the SMART value.

You didn't mention the make/model and if the "three new disks" are the same.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T.
says for "ID 192"...
"Count of times the heads are loaded off the media. Heads can be unloaded without actually powering off."
so given your 13 hours of "ID 9 Power_On_Hours", the values you are getting for "ID 192" don't appear to be realistic.
The Hitachi Travelstar 5K100 series hdd mentioned in this thread...
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/24 … 0&tstart=0
has...
192 Power-OffRetractCount 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 201877487644
and this thread...
http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux. … tools/9530
also mentions unrealistic counts for "ID 192".
If you have the same make and/or similar models as these, then perhaps Hitachi has changed "ID 192" to mean something else - given the high numbers seen in the links, I'm guessing that it could be number of bytes written: 201877487644 bytes = 201GB and following suit, yours would be 8MB.
If you have the capability, you could test the drives using the manufacturer's own disk checking utility, but these programs are usually windows based.

I am in fact using Hitachi drives, though all three are different models: Z5k1000, 5k1000 and 5k250.
The strange thing is when they are plugged through a USB enclosure, this value does not increate, but when they are plugged in through laptop's SATA interface, it does.
However, the numbers of bytes written is not consistent with the amount of data written you calculated. With ~6 mln count of 192 parameter, I wrote around 500 GB of data to the disk.

I did say "I'm guessing" :-)
If you are using a USB enclosure, sometimes smart data does not propagate fully due to the particular chipset in the external enclosure, which is why when using manufacturer's disk utility programs, you normally have to connect the disks directly to an internal sata port using a supported controller.
If it's possible, have you tried changing the disk controller settings in BIOS to see if that makes any difference (AHCI for instance)?

It appears that this is an inherent characteristics of Hitachi HDDs. I tested some old Seagate drive and it did not show this behaviour. Based on my experience and some other scarce reports found online, the most likely conclusion is that Hitachi re-purposed SMART value 192 to report some other meaning, apparently "bytes write" or something alike.
