Problems with alsa upgrade

Hi all,

I upgraded this A.M and got the new ALSA packages. I had issues with the KDE sound system not starting. I would recieve an artsmessage stating there was a "fatal error cpu overload".

Downgrading back to:
- alsa-lib 1.0.10-1
- alsa-oss 1.0.10-1
- alsa-utils 1.0.10-1
Fixed the problem.

The only somewhat relevent log entries I could find was in 'everything.log' and went something like this:
Apr 25 13:51:37 nsarch snd_ac97_codec: Unknown symbol snd_interval_refine

Re: Problems with alsa upgrade

Don't know if this will help but I was having a problem also but I use gnome. When I tried playing xmms the sound would jump around and generally sound like total garbage and start misbehaving, For a quick fix I changed to the OSS driver and everything works fine. Must have another look to see if I can fix it.

Re: Problems with alsa upgrade

I just played with alsa again and seems to be fixed. You can try this to see if it works.Have a look in your modprobe.conf and add this line    options snd-via82xx ac97_quirk=0
I then found that if I changed the driver configuration from default to hw: 0,0 it works like a charm, I'm certain I had this before the upgrade so maybe it changed it back but I'm not sure

I'm having a similar problem, where can I change the driver configuration?

Thanks.

Re: Problems with alsa upgrade

I have the same problem. I've noticed artsd in using 99% of CPU.
Downgrade of the alsa packages to the previous version helped.

Re: Problems with alsa upgrade

Has anyone of you tried to recompile arts? That might be a solution.

Its not a problem of arts, its a problem of alsa-lib.
For who have this problem take look this links.

Same problem on forum Gentoo
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-45 … -alsa.html
We must only attend alsa developers for the fix.
