Yes, I know, it is so easy to forget. I use to run lilo before but nowadays a run grub. You could always try grub, it doesn't have this kind of a problem.

It would be possible to do something... You can make it run lilo at every shutdown (would update lilo at  times when it's not necesarry and add a few seconds to the shutdown, but it would work). That can be done by making an /etc/rc.d script that does nothing special at start but updates lilo at stop, and add it to /etc/rc.conf (I did something similar to run a hdparm command at boot, works fine) or you can add the lilo command directly to /etc/rc.shutdown (that might get overwritten in updates of the initscripts though).

I think it would be possible to make a process that monitors the pacman logs and notice if the kernel is updated, and automaticly update lilo... Or maybe it can be made to check the pacman logs at shutdown and compare the last kernel update with the uptime, and if necesarry update lilo.

Or you can follow PJs suggestion and switch to grub, this is the reason I switched.

Next time you do something stupid, don't panic. As long as you can reach these forums, you'll be fine. tongue
