[Solved] Installaing linux on Lenovo Thinkpad Carbon X1 4th-gen 2016

Hi everyone,

I have recently bought a Thinkpad carbon X1 2016 and so far I am unable to install Linux on it.
Both Bios and UEFI bootloaders are working when I insert the archlinux iso but on UEFI I just get a black screen after I select the EUFI boot and on BIOS bootloder it gets stuck on Booting the kernel.

Has anyone installed Linux on this machine before? This is a really new laptop and I would appreciate it if anyone could help me.

Yes I have tried it enabled and disabled. As I said bootloaders are working, kernel doesn't boot.

Have you tried your bootable media on other machines?  How did you create the bootable media?

With the dd command. Yes, it works on my older laptop.

Ok I finally managed to boot with specifying "intel_pstate=disable" in kernel parameters.

I boot mine with intel_pstate=no_hwp. Do you know if there is any difference?

I don't know actually but it seems that you are disabling parts of it only.
But now that I have installed Arch Linux on my laptop, I am very happy big_smile
I couldn't get the fingerprint reader working with FPrint though.

I can't get the fingerprint reader to work either.
I'll look into the intel_pstate thing, if I find anything interesting I'll post it here.

By the way, what bootloader do you use?

I use systemd-boot.
This is a link to the bug that we are probably facing. https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=110941
